'Create' Art Club
Lesson: Art and design
(The Club is run in partnership with Didsbury Community Church.)
Pupils come to Create Art Club after school to enjoy being creative, learning and sharing further skills. The Club is a supportive environment where pupils can benefit from the wellbeing that making art work can bring.
In Art Club we looked at the work of Louise Nevelson (1899-1988).
(September 23, 1899 – April 17, 1988) was an American sculptor known for her monumental, monochromatic, wooden wall pieces and outdoor sculptures.
She used found objects and recycled them to create, what she called, ‘Assemblages’. The pupils used a cardboard tray, various materials and their own collected objects to construct individual ‘Assemblages’. They focused on the structure, shapes and the shadows of the objects with their arrangements. By painting the finished work in white, they further enhanced the shadows and shapes being focused on.
The finished ‘Assemblages’ were then arranged into a large group to give an overall architectural look.
