PE & Sports Premium

What is PE and Sports Premium Funding?

In March 2013 the Departments of Education, Health and Culture Media and Sport jointly announced that every state funded primary school in the country would receive additional funding for academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15, to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This has since been extended until the academic year 2019/20.

Primary schools with seventeen or more pupils received £8000 and an additional £5 per pupil. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. However schools have the freedom to spend the money how they feel will best meet the needs of their children.

Schools will be held accountable for how they have used the funding. Ofsted have strengthened their coverage of PE and sport within the “Inspectors’ handbook” and supporting guidance, so that schools know how PE and sport will be assessed in the future.

This funding will support us to:

  • Focus on our children receiving high quality PE teaching for all children by ensuring staff receive support with their CPD needs.

  • Focus on the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.

  • Increase the number and variety of enrichment opportunities before school, at lunchtime and after school to engage children in different sports and physical activity.

  • Provide support for our PE lead to attend subject specific courses to keep abreast of local and national initiatives.

  • Provide CPD for NQT’s to attend PE courses.

  • To provide courses to meet the CPD needs of staff, as identified.

  • Provide transport for children to take part in inter school competition, organized by Manchester PE Association.

  • Spring 1 -Provide a Change4Life club to target less active pupils in Yrs 1 and 2.

  • Provide targeted physical intervention groups for pupils in Yr 5/6 to help improve their physical development.

  • Increasing pupils’ participation in inter and intra school competitions.
