Nursery - Oak Class

Weekly News 24.3.2025

This week:

In literacy, we have been focussing on 'WOW! Said the Owl' by Tim Hopgood. This was a follow up text as we have noticed that most children are still not confident with colours. The children have enjoyed all the adventures from the story and had chance for each child to choose one of their favourite scene of the story that they liked and explain why. Again this helps to reinforce children to speak in full sentence using more that three words and having to use the word 'because' in their sentence.

In phonics, this has been our third week to revisit aspect 1-5 to consolidate knowledge and fill the gaps within all aspects. The children have enjoyed all the games and some tongue twisters during the lessons. Their confidence has shown when they have to guess some environmental sounds or pretend to be an animal by making different animal sounds. Also, noticing the initial sounds in words is becoming easier for the children which will be helpful when we start learning some letter sounds after Easter holiday.

In Maths, the children have been learning about labelling numbers 1-3. To achieve this the children have been making actions and moving fingers when saying counting words. Counting out up to 3 objects from rhymes. Noticing number symbols as labels. Finally, labelling amounts as 1, 2, or 3.

This week the children had an opportunity to take part in Eid trail activity with year 3 &4 in the field which all children had a lot of fun and fully enjoyed working with the older children. We have also been busy making 'Mother's Day' cards to take home. The children have also planted a sunflower seed each and have taken home to look after and watch it grow. This will provide an opportunity to talk about the experience and progress.
