North West in Bloom is the voluntary regional organisation that administers the Britain in Bloom competition in Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside, and is one of the 18 regions and Nations that comprise Britain in Bloom.

Britain in Bloom is one of the most effective, and longest running environmental competitions in the United Kingdom and each year it grows in size and importance and involves more people, groups and organisations within the community. Since 1964, communities from across the North West have demonstrated their ability to create and maintain attractive environments that benefit residents and visitors alike.

From the mill towns of Lancashire to the picturesque villages of both Cheshire and the Lancashire coast, every city town urban community and village is eligible to enter. We also look for entries from tourist attractions, hotels, pubs and shopping centres. The aim of the competition is to encourage the improvement of our surroundings through the imaginative use of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping. It also aims to achieve a litter free and sustainable environment.

Northwest in Bloom Judges visit Broad Oak

Towards the end of last year we welcomed judges for Northwest in Bloom to visit our school to see the work that our pupils had undertaken to develop our pond area and other outdoor spaces. I am pleased to announce that at the recent awards ceremony Broad Oak was awarded with a 2022 Award in the Schools Category and in addition has won the 2022 Trevor Leese Award for the Best School.

The award was presented in assembly on Monday 7th November. I would like to thank Mrs. McKrell, Miss. Ince and Mrs. Farrell for their contributions and all of the staff team who worked with the children to produce items that contributed to our entry.
