Nursery 2019 - 2020
Nursery Autumn Term:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
A main focus for this term is settling in and making good relationships with adults and children in the setting. We have been supporting the children to ask each other for help, ask for a turn or show others what they have been doing.
Communication and Language
We have been learning to sit in a group with others, learn each others' names and say a simple greeting each day. The children are also developing confidence to talk about what they are doing and take turns in a conversation. We have read a different story each week as a stimulus for other activities, for example "Dear Zoo" was used as starting point for lots of lion role play, making animal masks and "reading" the story with friends during continuous provision.
We have been practising putting on our own coats and wellies to go outside and using a range of climbing and balancing equipment, bikes and large construction to make dens outside. Indoors we have daily access to mark-making and drawing activities, cutting and sticking, painting, sand and water play to help us to develop fine-motor skills.
We have also been doing lots of counting, singing number rhymes and creating patterns both in group times and in continuous provision.
In phonics sessions every day we practise all 7 aspects of phase 1: environmental sounds, instrumental sounds, body percussion, rhythm and rhyme, alliteration (sound of the week), voice sounds, oral blending and segmenting.
